Syllabus for the GRE Examination


The GRE test is sectioned into two forms, one is the computer based examination and the other is the paper based examination. The computer-adaptive general test duration is 3 hours, excluding the research section and the paper based general test is for 3.45 hour duration. In the analytical writing ability paper, the students' writing skills on current issues are analyzed by the examiner. The verbal reasoning section includes 6 sentence completion questions, 7 analogy questions, 8 reading comprehension questions and 9 antonym questions. Further, in the the GRE quantitative section there are a total of 28 questions of which 14 questions are problem solving and 14 questions deal with quantitative comparisons.


In the GRE computer based examination, students are not allowed to skip a question or come back to the previous question. The detailed information for the computer based general test is listed below in a tabular form:

The paper based general test is an experimental section and there is no research paper included in this part. Besides this, in the issue task section of this paper, students get an opportunity to make a choice from 2 essay topics related to on-going issues.
