Syllabus for XAT

The examination pattern of XAT is more or less similar to CAT (Common Admission Test) but there is an essay, which is compulsory for students who are appearing for this exam.  The XAT examination is divided into four sections in which three sections have objective type questions and the fourth section includes essay writing. An aspirant needs to attend the first three sections within the time period of 2 hours and the last section in 20 minutes.  In the first section, questions are based on verbal reasoning that includes reading comprehension, jumbled sentences, vocabulary and English grammar. Questions on quantitative ability, reasoning and data interpretation are usually asked in the second section of the XAT. It covers questions on equation, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, permutation & combination, probability, maxima and minima, integration and differentiation, number system, logs, series, data sufficiency, etc. The questions for the third section are based on general knowledge, which covers topic like advertisement punch lines, names of eminent business executives and important global events. It also includes questions on history, geography, science and the Indian constitution. The last section has a question on essay writing that need to be written by the candidate in 250- 300 words. Further, a negative marking criteria has been set by XLRI in which every wrong answer, has a one-third mark deduction.
